Don't panic, just a short break of maybe a few weeks to sort some stuff regarding the Boogiewoody mansion plus other matters. I thought it would be fair to announce my temporary absence in advance this time as I can imagine the constant disappointment of R&B and Jazz starved fans dropping by to find neither fresh music nor newly uncovered arcane info posted on the blog.
There's a queue of "new" records to be processed (ebay auctions, yay!) plus Marv has been sending material but at the moment I'm just not in a position to do any blog work so it's "au revoir" but certainly not "adieu" from Be Bop Wino.
In the meantime I recommend that boogsters get a regular ration of blues 'n' rhythm from Matt The Cat's excellent "Juke In The Back" podcast. He's currently on week 5 of a King Records retrospective, so get yourself over to:
Check out Matt's archives for a massive treasure trove of jumpin' R&B and enjoy listening!
Until we meet again in the very near future, keep a rockin'!

Do what you gotta do, take care, and (we hope) hurry back.
ReplyDeleteall best,
eric
Enjoy your break BW and stay safe. We'll miss you and look forward to your return.
ReplyDeleteSo as Ben E King would say, it's Auf Wiedersehen ... hope all goes well.
ReplyDeleteola,
ReplyDeletehave fun

Thank you, BW -- good luck, looking forward to seeing you back again. Maybe my new, improved speakers will have arrived by then. Meanwhile, now hooked on http://www.jukeintheback.org/
ReplyDeleteGee, boogster, you coulda at least "embellished" it a bit more... With maybe something a bit more summer time fun-like...
ReplyDeleteLike: "I'm off to my private Caribbean Island for a few weeks of R and R..... And maybe I will bring along some R and B..."
Whatever it is you do...
Be safe, be happy, behave.
And if you can't be good, be careful.
Smooth sailing to you & yours!
Enjoy your well-deserved break!
ReplyDeleteHurry Back!
Here we are in October. I do hope all is well with you. I do miss the blog. However with all that's been going on I am really hoping you are OK. Take care!
ReplyDeleteA break of"a few weeks" turned into a few months. I'm fine thanks, though probably beginning to get lockdown fever. There's been some re-up requests plus a few interesting emails and comments so I'll try to get the show on the road again this weekend.
ReplyDeleteBW
Not looking for music, just here to say we miss you!
ReplyDeleteI'll keep checking hoping you can manage to get back in the groove-as others have already stated we miss you and the authoritative notes regarding the music
ReplyDeleteThere must be a lot of action on that little island! Hope you'll be back someday. Either way, thanks for sharing such fine music.
ReplyDeleteHey, I guess you’ve decided to retire. So thanks for all the great stuff you’ve shared here - must have been a whole load of work. Have a happy rest of your life
ReplyDeleteI'll be back! Sometime ...

ReplyDeleteGood to hear! I was beginning to question the "Don't panic" message.
Hope you get this message BW...Just want to wish you a Merry Xmas, stay safe. Looking forward to your return.
ReplyDeleteBob Mac.
Hope all is well with you this new year. I check to see if you're back at the old turntable again, and I hope to see you again. Stay safe and enjoy your break.
ReplyDeleteRoger Koch
Hoping for a return soon. Checking daily. Hope all is well
ReplyDeleteWhat Gino said.
ReplyDeleteGetting a little concerned, actually.. That "few weeks" is now nearly a year.. Maybe, if you can.. post a comment that all is OK?
ReplyDeleteShort break... What do you consider a long break? :-)
ReplyDeleteYou OK BW? Long long time no see, no hear...hope the damn virus hasn't got ya. Anyway, if you read the messages we hope you are well and will be returning soon.
ReplyDeleteWill add myself to the list of well wishers- hope all is ok. Just wanted to say thank you! I came across this blog a while back last year looking for a Lightnin' Slim album and finally have gone through all of it. Not all the links work but all the mega ones still do so I still got a treasure trove of new names and things I've been missing from my favorites. So thank you for your hard work from a young musician that loves the hell out of this stuff!
ReplyDeleteI hope all is well BW. You are missed! Thanks for all of your previous efforts.

ReplyDeleteHow soon is now? Guess no more boogie woogie from boogiewoody then?
ReplyDeleteBloody Long break hope your safe from the dreaded virus
ReplyDeleteI'd be grateful, once you're back in circulation, if you could email me regarding possibly contributing to a Savoy blog: neil@typog.co.uk

ReplyDeleteReckon the old boy has snuffed it and is now looking down on us from above.

ReplyDeleteSeems to me to be most unlikely there will be any return to activity hereupon. So let us give thanks for that which has been posted and the hard work that went into it. Whatever the reason for the silence I'm sure there must be something serious behind it.
ReplyDeleteAh'm no deid yet! Apologies to everyone especially my collaborators. I just totally lost the taste for music and a few weeks rest has turned into ... er, how long? I've had the dreaded Covid but have recovered and who knows, I may well be back. Keep on chuggin'
ReplyDeleteBoogiewoody
Any news is good gnus boogiewoody . . . there are many here who await with baited breath and keen anticipation in hope of your will return. But whatever your decision, it is good to know you are still among us and have recovered from the dreaded Covid. May your health continue to be good and may your interest in music return. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteGood to read you're ok. I've wondered for awhile why the silence. Always enjoyed your blog, altho' i got the impression it was very time consuming to compile. It was good while it lasted, but hey ho, all the best for the future. Atb, Jeunet.
ReplyDeletethis is now a 2 year break. Hope your well missing you on rockfall.ro
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you are alive and well. Oracle.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteVery glad you're okay.
Thank you for the entertainment and education.
Stay well and may you find new passions.
Lost the taste of ...Music.??
ReplyDeleteThat hurt my (blackened) heart, as dead as it is, that still cut and drew blood. But, methinks with the passion and ear for music your heart is big and your ears are sharp.
Maybe just isolation creates a repeat of and and overdoing eventually of all that entertains and usually keeps one at peace.
MAybe your in dior need of what human connection truly brings: Enlightenment and horizons not yet visited. Even when it's enlightenment to something stupid it is atleast something new and at the very least different and thus a road not yet taken (trampled into the dirt.)
Glad you survived the virus now don't let the sickness of monotiny cause symtoms of depression & denial of the joys of life i.e. powers ov mvsic! (Also remember even as dark or low (and the opposite) as you feel their ir a music out there for you, by way of apathetic understanding the music can be like a excorcism of those low-down tormenting.
Remember u help all of us keep our hearts a pumpin w/ the badass posts, so a bihg MUCHOS THANK YOUS' from all of us mongoloid fans & followerz!! CHEERS! & again thankthank thank ya!
Still sadly missed. I hope the taste for music returns.
ReplyDeleteHey BW. Looking back through these posts it was good to see one from you letting us know that you're OK. I've been wondering how you were. Anyway, you may or may not know that I'm running my own music blog these days. It's private but I have a few vacant spots and would welcome you onboard. If you'd like to join the group send me an email (macbobbi@gmail.com) and I'll send you a blogger invite. Plenty of great music posted on my blog...blues/R&B/gospel/soul, plus jazz, rockabilly, hillbilly/country. All the good stuff. Take care, all the best from Bob Mac.
ReplyDeleteGone but not forgotten--I keep an eye peeled...
ReplyDeletevery sadly missed
ReplyDeletethis is now a long break. hope your ok Dean
ReplyDeleteShort break...
ReplyDelete6 years now, you are sadly missed and there are many who wish you could return. Anyway, hope you are well and happy. All the best from Bob Mac.
ReplyDeleteMy thanks to all who have sent their best wishes and expressed anxiety about my health. I can assure you that I'm still well and I do apologise that my short break became a very prolonged absence.
ReplyDeleteIt's been so long since I've posted that I've forgotten all the skills that go into these posts - from ripping from vinyl to scanning LP covers. And all that research online and in books too! I also lost my enthusiasm for music - not just for Be Bop Wino type music but for just about all music.
Perhaps I might get the taste back sometime soon and put up the occasional post. I've been away from blogging so long that I've no idea which of my favourite blogs are still going. Guess I'll have a look round the blogosphere and try to get the old enthusiasm back.
My thanks again to all of you who have been hanging on in hope!
