Joan Selects - Volume 7 - Rarities

The doowop series to end them all is back with a selection of rare vinyl and shellac from Joan’s collection. This time the theme is as the title says - rarities. I’m no expert on rare records, so it’s over to Joan for info on some of these long lost treasures:

The Cliff Butler cut gives no credit to the group, but he customarily sang lead for the Doves. I assume then that the group underpinning "Jealous Hearted Woman" would also be the Doves.

"Cant Help Loving That Girl Of Mine" on Ronni 1000 is rated by collectors as extremely rare and the occasional copy that surfaces, can command prices in excess of $1000, when in top condition.

The Enchanters who perform "True Love Gone" on Coral records were another of the 1950's gospel groups that made the shift to R&B. As gospel singers they were known as the Hollowell Brothers.

"The Story Blues" by the Four Buddies and "Rainbow of Love" By The Cherokees are both 78 rpm dubs from my original 78 collection.

"Magic Mirror" by the Empires on the legendary Harlem Label features Johnny Ace Junior on lead vocals.

Thanks yet again to Joan, not only for these rare sounds but also for a folder of 16 label shots, some of which are displayed below.

Ripped from vinyl and shellac at 128 kbps. Password = greaseyspoon

Thank you very nice blog.
Do you know any jazz band from the 1930s that plays in a similar style to Joseph Robichaux & His New Orleans Rhythm Boys?

Er .... I haven't a clue about Joseph Robichaux. This is really a 1940s/1950s blog, although it may occasionally stray into the 1930s or the early 1960s.

Well thank you.You can listen to Robichaux on the blues town.
