Creepin' & Peepin' / Just Before Sunrise - Jesse Price / Buddy Floyd (Miltone 5250)

In response to a request on the Brown Gal post by "sunman" for "the two tracks Buddy Floyd recorded under his own name" I can only come up with one track - "Just Before Sunrise." This was released on the B side of Miltone 5250 in June 1949, advance notice of the release being listed in the June 18th 1949 issue of Billboard.

The A side was "Creepin' & Peepin'" by Jesse Price and His Jump Jivers. "Just Before Sunrise" was credited to Buddy Floyd with Maxwell Davis and the Miltone Orchestra.

And for those of you who are wondering who Buddy Floyd was, he was the tenor saxman in Roy Milton's Solid Senders. See "Brown Gal" and various other Roy Milton posts on the blog.

This disc was re-released on Gotham 236 in 1950 credited to "Jesse Price and The Jump Jivers."

Now can anyone help with any further recordings by Buddy under his own name? All info, and / or sound samples would be gratefully received.

Anyway, on with the show. "Creepin' & Peepin'' and "Just Before Sunrise" make an excellent instrumental pairing. Both sides are moody slow blues and excellent late night listening.

Thanks so much for these sides. I've been a fan of Buddy's since I first heard him with Roy on "The Specialty Story" LP in 1981. I was just getting into R&B after a steady diet of jazz since the early 1970s and was blown away that he played less than 20 notes and relied on tone so much in his RM Blues solo instead of "sheets of sound" that I was used to from Bird, Trane etc. I met Jay McShann one time and brought up Buddy. He immediately said "Hot Bisquits!" with a big smile on his face. Thanks for all you do to gain exposure for this music.

Thank you very much for such an interesting comment, sunman. I always enjoy hearing about contacts with the original jazz and R&B musicians, as I'm sure the blog readers also do!

Boogiewoody,
When I view the post I see "Creepin' and Peepin'" and "Just Before Sunrise" with blank space after each. Have you inserted Box players? I can't figure out why they're not visible on my browser. I'd love to hear these, so I'll keep trying.

The players weren't visible with Firefox, but I'm listening now with Internet Explorer. You're right - excellent tunes for late-night listening, especially "Just Before Sunrise"!

Hi Marie

I've inserted zippyshare players. They're visible to me on both Chrome and Firefox. Both players have been accessed multiple times for playback and downloading according to the stats on my zippyshare account. What browser are you using?
